With the NFL draft and offseason programs, all wrapped up teams are starting their virtual training programs now. Now you could still see things change depending on late cuts and trades we might see but we’re back and we’re breaking down every team and division giving you their floor and ceiling for the year. Let’s goooooooo with our 2020 AFC North preview.
ICYMI: NFC North Preview
Cincinnati Bengals (2-14 2019 record)
Well, I guess the best thing to say about this Bengals squad is the first step you take needs to be your biggest one. In Zac Taylor’s first year on the job the Bengals were the worst team in the NFL. The offensive line derailed with injuries early in training camp and that set the tone for the season. AJ Green sat out the entire year and longtime starter Andy Dalton was benched for Ryan Finley. The whole season was nothing but a disaster forcing the Bengals to completely reboot.
Draft Class
- 1-1: Joe Burrow, QB (LSU)
- 2-33: Tee Higgins, WR (Clemson)
- 3-65: Logan Wilson, LB (Wyoming)
- 4-107: Akeem Davis-Gaither, OLB (Appalachian State)
- 5-147: Khalid Kareem, DE (Notre Dame)
- 6-180: Hakeem Adeniji, T (Kansas)
- 7-215: Markus Bailey, LB (Purdue)
So with Joe Burrow taking the reins this year don’t expect a quick turnaround. Burrow will have playmakers around him in AJ Green, Tee Higgins, Tyler Boyd, and Joe Mixon. They also spent huge money on the defensive side of the ball in free agency. The Bengals will be far more competitive than they were last season.
- Floor: 1-15
- Ceiling: 7-9
Cleveland Browns (6-10 2019 record)
America’s team from a season ago fell flat of expectations. This led to an entire reboot this offseason. They hired a new head coach and general manager who are now gifted with a slew of playmakers in Odell Beckham Jr, Jarvis Landry, Austin Hooper, Nick Chubb, and Kareem Hunt. But how will Baker Mayfield respond after a down season where he didn’t play up to expectations and had more commercials than he did wins.
Draft Class
- 1-10: Jedrick Wills, T (Alabama)
- 2-44: Grant Delpit, S (LSU)
- 3-88: Jordan Elliott, LB (Missouri)
- 3-97: Jacob Phillips, LB (LSU)
- 4-115: Harrison Bryant, TE (Florida Atlantic)
- 5-160: Nick Harris C (Washington)
- 6-187: Donovan Peoples-Jones, WR (Michigan)
I think it’s almost impossible to take this team seriously no matter how talented they are. They have yet to be consistent, they change coaches every 2 seasons it seems and everything is rushed. Not only is this a bad team, but it’s also a horrible organization.
- Floor: 3-13
- Ceiling: 9-7
Pittsburgh Steelers (8-8 2019 record)
This team played beyond what anyone could have expected last season. They had a plethora of injuries to their starting QB, RB, and WR positions. On the defensive side of the ball they traded for Minkah Fitzpatrick and the defense played lights once they did. They won games with Mason Rudolph and Duck Hodges, that should say all you need to know about their defense.
Draft Class
- 2-49: Chase Claypool, WR (Notre Dame)
- 3-102: Alex Highsmith, OLB (Charlotte)
- 4-124: Anthony McFarland Jr., RB (Maryland)
- 4-135: Kevin Dotson, G (Louisiana)
- 6-198: Antoine Brooks Jr., S (Maryland)
- 7-232: Carlos Davis, DT (Nebraska)
With the Steelers having one of the best coaches in the game of football and getting their star players back expect to see this team bounce back in 2020.
- Floor: 7-9
- Ceiling: 11-5
Baltimore Ravens (14-2 2019 record)
Oh, how I love talking about the Baltimore Ravens. Lamar Jackson won the league MVP and led the Ravens to the AFC’s #1 seed and home-field advantage, We all know how that went. Jim Harbaugh is once again a great coach and the team played tremendous defense last year that was complimented by a run centric offense that just happens to use RPOS better than any team ever.
- 1-28: Patrick Queen, LB (LSU)
- 2-55: J.K. Dobbins, RB (Ohio State)
- 3-71: DT Justin Madubuike, DT (Texas A&M)
- 3-92: Devin Duvernay, WR (Texas)
- 3-98: Malik Harrison, LB (Ohio State)
- 3-106: Tyre Phillips, OL (Mississippi State)
- 4-143: Ben Bredeson, G (Michigan)
- 5-170: Broderick Washington Jr., DT (Texas Tech)
- 6-201: James Proche, WR (SMU)
- 7-219: Geno Stone S (Iowa)
If I am the Ravens heading into this season the thing I would watch is getting complacent. The Titans exposed this team’s flaws in the postseason and other teams are going to copy their game plan. So we will need to see Lamar become more of the guy that can beat you with his arm than to do it with his legs. The Titans forced Jackson to have to throw to the outside and he showed he couldn’t.
- Floor: 9-7
- Ceiling: 15-1
